The difference that fly fringes can make...
Khushi Mohammad earns less than £1.50 a day working with his donkey Jugnu to transport goods to market by cart – but his meagre wage is vital for feeding his family of five.
Recently however, Jugnu began developing severe wounds around his eyes, which were becoming more infected and painful by the constant exposure to flies. Jugnu was extremely distressed and his eyes had become so sore that he could barely open them. The poor donkey really was not in a fit state to work.
Luckily during a routine Brooke clinic at the Nadeem brick kiln in Lahore, Dr Arshad Zahoor came across the donkey and was able to treat his wounds by cleaning the area around the eye and then applying antibiotic cream to fight the infection.
Dr Arshad also gave training to Khushi on how to keep his animal’s eyes clean and healthy, and gave him a fly fringe for Jugnu. Fly fringes are a great way of reducing the risk of infection in and around an animal’s eyes as they help keep pests away.
Khushi was thankful for the advice and treatment for his precious donkey, and now understands the importance of taking care of his animal’s eyes. And now Jugnu wears his brightly coloured fly fringe every day – and is able to work much more comfortably with his eyes protected from pests.
