The difference that care for old animals can make…
Cart donkey Meseeda has been working for over 15 years in Kanayess, Egypt, carrying out exhausting, back-breaking work in order to support her owner – Hussein Saad, and his family. Poor Meseeda was suffering from joint problems in her old age, but Hussein wasn’t able to retire her as the family had no money to buy a new animal – and couldn’t afford to keep the donkey if she wasn’t earning her keep.
When the Brooke’s mobile team visited Kanayess, Hussein brought his mare along for a check up and the team immediately noticed that she was old. The Brooke team treated Meseeda for her joint problems and asked Hussein to bring her for a check up once a week.
Hussein also promised to attend Brooke training sessions to help him to understand about the special care that older animals like Meseeda need. When Hussein reduced Meseeda’s workload on the Brooke’s advice and began taking her for regular check ups, he was overjoyed to see the change in his faithful donkey.
