The difference that a month’s healthy eating can make…
A nutritious and balanced diet is vital for all working horses, donkeys and mules – especially those who work grueling days in the punishing brick kilns.
Za’em, a mule working in a brick kiln in the Helwan district of Cairo, pulled back-breaking loads for 10 hours a day under the sweltering Egyptian sun. Unfortunately Fayez, Za’em’s owner, wasn’t providing his mule with fresh, nutritious fodder – and as result, poor Za’em was extremely malnourished and emaciated.
A Brooke mobile clinic was visiting the brick kiln and Dr Amr noticed Za’em’s pitiful state. He knew immediately that the mule needed urgent treatment, and a concentrated feeding program. Za’em received multi vitamins, straw, barley and green fodder, as well as plenty of fresh water. After a month he had recovered and was strong and healthy.
The Brooke team advised Fayez to keep his loyal mule well fed and to regularly offer him barley and green fodder, as well as fresh water. Fayez was grateful that Za’em had recovered successfully and promised to always provide him with enough nutritious fodder in future.
