The Shop

The Shop

What is the Brooke Shop?

The Brooke shop is a brilliant way to buy your friends and loved ones ‘gifts full of feeling’ which not only will put a smile on their faces but will also help horses and donkeys in need, and the people who depend on them for an income.

Can I find out more information about the projects my gifts have funded?

Unfortunately it is not possible to tell you exactly where your particular gift has gone, as the administrative costs of tracking this would be too high and would mean that less money could be used where it is needed most. All donations received from the Brooke Shop go directly to our work overseas. If you would like to hear more, you can sign up to our e-newsletter for updates on our work including information on all the different ways we are reaching animals around the world.

How much do you spend on the production of the Brooke Shop?

The Brooke Shop has proved to be a very cost effective way of raising money for the Brooke’s work around the world, and we aim to make the best possible use of our supporter’s money to make the biggest difference to working horses’ and donkeys’ lives. We are constantly working to reduce our costs in order to maximise the amount of money going overseas, and although the Brooke Shop Catalogue only costs 8p to produce, our average order is over £40. The Brooke Shop also helps to recruit many new supporters every year.

Can you send me the Brooke Shop catalogue?

Please call 0845 367 0555 to order a catalogue or you order copies online at www.thebrookeshop.org.

When will my order be delivered?

We will dispatch orders within 5 days from receipt of order by first class post – so please up to 14 days for delivery of your gifts. Please be aware that the possibility of ongoing strike action at Royal Mail may impact on the delivery of your order. We will endeavor to ensure that your order reaches you as soon as possible, but please allow an extra 7 days on top of our usual delivery times during this period.

Where does the money from the gifts I buy go?

Every penny from Brooke Shop gifts goes directly to our operations overseas, helping animals where and how they need it most. All the gifts shown relate to projects that Brooke teams undertake. In some cases we have illustrated a typical example of what we provide, but this changes depending on where in the world the work takes place. Whatever you can give you can be sure it will help us reach out to animals and communities that really need it!

How does it work when I buy a Brooke Gift for someone?

Step 1: You order a gift from The Brooke Shop for a friend or relative

Step 2: We send you an attractive gift certificate detailing the gift, an attractive gift card to give to your friend or loved one, and some Brooke magnetic poetry so that you can have a fridge full of feeling!

Step 3: Your friend or relative knows that their gift is helping horses and donkeys who really need it.

Step 4: The money you give us is ALL spent on our work in poor communities around the world.

It’s after 15th December 2009 – what can I do?

We can still take your order for postal delivery– but unfortunately we can’t guarantee that they will reach you before Christmas. We will dispatch orders from 3 days from receipt of order by first class post.

Alternatively, you could order gifts after 15th December online, via www.thebrookeshop.org, where you have the option of printing a ‘virtual gift certificate’, or having an personalised e-gift emailed direct to your loved one. Simply chose the email option when you order.

How do I order a gift if I live overseas?

You can order by post, phone or online.

Can I Gift Aid my virtual gifts?

Yes, Brooke Shop virtual gifts are counted as donations and therefore they are eligible for Gift Aid. The Gift Aid scheme allows charities such as the Brooke, to reclaim the basic rate tax that has already been paid on donations. This increases the value of your donations by 28% - almost a third! To sign up to Gift Aid, you must pay Income or Capital Gains tax, and you must have paid enough tax in the tax year in question to cover the amount which the Brooke will reclaim.

Christmas Cards

What if my chosen Christmas Card design is out of stock?

If a card design becomes low in stock we may not be able to re-print it in time for Christmas. Orders taken by telephone or web are unlikely to be affected as we will aim only to take orders for Christmas Cards we have stock for, however if you ordered through the post it maybe that your order has been received once our stock of a certain card has sold out.

In the event, that your chosen design has sold out we will provide a replacement design (to all orders postal, web and telephone). If for any reason you would prefer not to keep this replacement design simply let us know and we will happily refund.

Can I pay for my Christmas Cards by CAF?

Regrettably, we are unable to accept payments for Christmas cards using either CAF vouchers, or CAF CharityCards. This is because although CAF tax efficient payment, it cannot be used for purchases of this type.

About the Brooke

The Brooke is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to improving the lives of horses and donkeys working hard in the poorest parts of the world. These animals are often the only source of income for many poor families, who depend on their working animal to survive. If their animal dies they struggle to earn a living and put food on the table.

Horses and donkeys toil in some of the world’s toughest environments carrying building materials, people goods and crops. Many of them suffer terrible pain, exhaustion, dehydration and malnutrition - but many of these problems can be prevented.

The Brooke’s mobile vet teams and community animal health workers, and our partner organisations worldwide, provide free treatment to animals and train animal owners, local healers, farriers, saddlers, feed sellers, harness and cart makers. We currently operate across 11 countries in Asia, Africa, Central America and the Middle East. We have over 800 staff working directly in the field.

Last year, we reached 730,000 working horses and donkeys - benefiting over 4 million poor people who depend on these animals. Our goal is to increase the number of working animals we help to two million animals a year by 2016.
